Comics Plus Teen Library provides unlimited, simultaneous access to thousands of digital comics, graphic novels, and manga in all genres especially for teens. Content in this collection will contain story intensity, action, and violence equivalent to a typical PG-13 rated movie. Recommended for ages 11-18. The Shelf.TV is a streaming video collection of Spanish-language movies, TV series, recorded performing arts events, and kids content from Latin America and Spain. The Kids section includes video games and acclaimed animated shows. There is something for all ages!  The Shelf.TV is available as an iOS and Android app, as well as on desktop computers.

Getting Started:

  • Click Access Now
  • New customers: Click “Create Account.”

Create an account by following the prompts:

  1. Enter your email address and create a password. 
  2. Select USA from the country drop down and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library from the library drop down.
  3. Fill out your library card number or One Access number, name, and birthdate. 
  4. Read and agree to the terms of service to complete registration.

Note: Customers under 13 will only have access to the Kids Zone content.

  • Returning Customers:

Select USA from the country drop down and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library from the list of libraries in the “Find and Select your library” section.  Enter your Library card number or One Access number and password in the “Access your Account section”.  Click “Enter The Shelf.”

NOTE: When the page opens you may see a popup saying that the site uses cookies. It’s okay to click “Accept” on this popup.  These cookies are essential to the platform.  The Shelf.TV does not use third party cookies or track personal data.

Borrowing:

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library customers can borrow up to 12 ticketed titles per month.  Tickets are used for movies and performing arts (look for the ticket icon).  All other content is unlimited (including kids games.  The ticket credit amount resets on the first of each month.

All content is available for viewing up to 48 hours after checkout.

Enjoy digital access to hundreds of U.S. and international newspapers, plus the magazine, The Economist.  Read in your browser or download the free PressReader app. The collection includes domestic and international newspapers in English as well as newspapers in approximately 60 different languages plus the ability to translate many titles in up to 20 different languages.  Popular newspaper choices include USA Today, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Guardian, Le Figaro, La Razon, Der Tagesspiegel, and China Daily.  The Economist has a 7-day checkout period.

Getting Started

Customers only need a library card in order to access the newspapers and The Economist available through PressReader.  Newspapers and The Economist can be accessed from a desktop or mobile device.  An app is available for iOs and Android devices.

Daily issues are available immediately, back issues vary by title from a few days to a few weeks.

Access the collection

  • Click the “Access Now” button below or Download the PressReader app for mobile devices (iOS app  or Android app).
  • Select “Sign In” found in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Select Library or Group.
  • Search “Charlotte” and select Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.
  • Enter your library card number or One Access number.
  • You will receive complimentary access for 30 days.  Don't be concerned if you see a message stating the number of hours and days you have left.  Your time will reset anytime your provide your library card number.

An account is not needed to access PressReader content.  However, a free account will allow you to read offline, create collections, save articles, and more.

OverDrive/Libby is a collection of e-books, digital audiobooks, and digital magazines offered by the library. E-books, audiobooks, and magazines can be downloaded to your computer, tablet, (including Kindle), or mobile device for offline reading or listening.

Getting Started

All you need to get started is your Charlotte Mecklenburg Library card number or ONE Access account number.  

 

Access the Collection

  • Click the "Access Now" button

  • Libby is OverDrive's app, designed to get you reading as quickly and seamlessly as possible.  Learn more about Libby and find help here.
  • Kindle Fire users will download the Libby app in the Amazon app store.

Borrowing

  • You can have a maximum of 20 items checked to you out at any given time.  For example, if three items are returned, you can check out three more to get back to 20.  This limit is not effected by the day of the month.  Digital magazine checkouts do not count towards your limit.

  • The default lending period for ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines is two weeks.  The settings menu will let you customize your lending period to 7 days, 14 days, or 21 days.  

If items are check out, place a hold.  Customers are allowed 10 holds on their account at any given time.  You will be contacted by email when your item is available to check out.  You'll see an option to renew a title on your Loans page three days before it expires, as long as there are no holds.  If the title has holds, you can request it again.

Return items when you are finished or they will be automatically returned when they are due so you never accumulate late fees!

Kanopy Kids

Stream a selection of educational and enriching videos on Kanopy Kids with developmentally appropriate, age-based ratings from Common Sense Media, as well as additional parental controls. Kanopy Kids categories include TV Series, Learning Languages, Animated Storybooks, Anime Favorites, Classic Films and Movies for the Whole Family. Kanopy Kids has unlimited views.

Getting started:

If you are a first time user, create a Kanopy account by clicking the "Sign Up" button. When creating your account, enter your name, email address and select a password.  An email will be sent to you with a verification link. Click on the link sent in the email and it will ask you to select your Library (Charlotte Mecklenburg Library) and enter your Charlotte Mecklenburg Library barcode and PIN number.

Access the Collection

  • Click the "Access Now" button
  • Enter through the main Kanopy site, and click on "Kids" in the upper right corner. Click again to toggle out of Kids Mode and return to the main Kanopy collection.
  • Download the Kanopy app for Android, Apple, and Amazon Fire tablets.
  • Kanopy can be streamed on your desktop computer, tablets, smartphones, and TV apps.
