Pressbooks

Pressbooks is an easy-to-use online software that allows you to create professional-quality e-book and print ready files in ePUB, MOBI, and PDF formats. You can create and export as many items as you wish!

To login to Pressbooks, click Access Now.  You will be required to make a Biblioboard Library username and password and provide an email address.

Libby by OverDrive: Teen Collection

The Libby by OverDrive: Teen Collection site filters the Library's Libby by OverDrive collection to show only Teen content, which gets teens to the titles they want faster!

Browsing can be done by subject, format or genre, and the advanced search feature allows filtering by availability, language, date added, and much more. Click on the "Main Collection" icon to return to the full Libby by OverDrive collection of digital materials. Libby by OverDrive titles can be accessed from a desktop computer using OverDrive Read or Listen. Mobile and tablet customers, download the Libby app for iOS and Android.

Getting Started

All you need to get started is your Charlotte Mecklenburg Library card number or ONE Access account number.  

 

Access the Collection

  • Click the "Access Now" button 

  • Libby is OverDrive's app, designed to get you reading as quickly and seamlessly as possible.  Learn more about Libby and find help here.

Borrowing

  • You can have a maximum of 20 items checked to you out at any given time.  For example, if three items are returned, you can check out three more to get back to 20.  This limit is not effected by the day of the month.

  • The default lending period for ebooks and audiobooks is two weeks.  The settings menu will let you customize your lending period to 7 days, 14 days, or 21 days.  

If items are check out, place a hold.  Customers are allowed 10 holds on their account at any given time.  You will be contacted by email when your item is available to check out.  You'll see an option to renew a title on your Loans page three days before it expires, as long as there are no holds.  If the title has holds, you can request it again.

 

Return items when you are finished or they will be automatically returned when they are due so you never accumulate late fees!

  • Not all devices are compatible with Libby by OverDrive.  Check the list of compatible devices

Libby by OverDrive: Kids Collection

Libby by OverDrive: Kids Collection offers e-books, digital audiobooks, and digital magazines. The Kids Collection includes picture books, youth fiction, youth nonfiction, and more.

Kids can browse, sample, place holds and borrow titles appropriate for their age range and reading level.  No adult content will appear in the search results.  Libby by OverDrive titles can be accessed from a desktop using OverDrive Read or Listen. Open Library is a free database of millions of digital books. You can view online or download to PDF, plain text, DAISY, ePub, DjVu, MOBi, and "Send to Kindle".

Open Education North Carolina Collection

Open Education North Carolina Collection contains free, open textbooks that have been curated for the most frequently taught courses across North Carolina's 2 and 4-year colleges and universities.

Open Education North Carolina Collection contains free, open textbooks that have been curated for the most frequently taught courses across North Carolina's 2 and 4-year colleges and universities. Faculty can adopt these Open Education Resources to save their students money and lower the overall cost of higher education.

There are four curated collections available: STEM, Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business.  Open the curated collection you are interested in to view textbooks available.  You can search resources by keywords or use the filters on the left side of the page.  Click on a title to display the description and view the textbook.  Textbooks can be viewed online without an account.  If you would like to highlight passages or add notes about the textbooks, you will need to create a free account.  Information on creating an account is here.

Created and maintained by the State Library of North Carolina this digital collection contains current and historical North Carolina state publications including informational brochures and pamphlets, various reports (annual, biennial, technical, statistical, etc.), serials (newsletters, checklists, magazines, etc.), handbooks, studies, and a variety of other information resources produced by North Carolina state government. The North Carolina Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NCLBPH) is a special public library that circulates books and magazines especially made for persons who cannot use regular printed material because of a visual or physical disability.

NYTimes.com is a multi-platform news tool that provides access to New York Times and International New York Times content, including breaking news, multimedia, reviews and opinion, blogs, videos and more. NYTimes is updated 24/7.

NYTimes.com is a multi-platform news tool that provides access to New York Times and International New York Times content, including breaking news, multimedia, reviews and opinion, blogs, videos and more. NYTimes is updated 24/7. Access includes all online content except for the crossword puzzle. Full access is provided for NYTimes articles published between 1851 thru 1922, and between 1981 thru current day. Access to the years 1923-1980 is limited.

To access the New York Times via Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, you will need to use an individual New York Times account. 

From inside the library:

  • Use a library computer or connect your own device to the library wifi
  • Go to nytimes.com/register
  • Register with your personal email address or click on "login here" if you already have created a New York Times account
  • Enjoy unlimited access to the New York Times!

For offsite access:

  • Click on the remote access link
  • Enter your library card number
  • Click "Redeem" to get 24 hours of continuous access
  • Register with your personal email address or click "login here" if you already have created a New York Times account

After 24 hours, you will need to redeem another pass by repeating these instructions for continued access. *A limited number of offsite passes are available per day.

Troubleshooting:

Do you get a screen like this?  Are you using Google Chrome?

Click "Ignore" and you will go on to redeem a pass.  We are unsure why Google Chrome is marking this an unsafe site.  We have contacted NYTimes about a solution and are hoping they fix the issue.  NYTimes recommends using Microsoft Edge browser for optimal experience.
