The Library provides free access to newspaper and magazine articles, homework help, genealogy, job and career help, financial resources, and more. These resources help you find quality materials that you can trust.
Please note, some resources require your library card or ONE Access ID number and PIN to access resources outside the Library.

NC Kids Digital Library
NC Kids Digital Library offers e-books, audiobooks, streaming videos, and Read-Alongs for youth ages pre-K through 4th grade.
NC Kids Digital Library offers e-books, audiobooks, streaming videos, and Read-Alongs. This collection was designed for youth ages pre-K through 4th grade and includes picture books, youth fiction, youth non-fiction, and more. Browsing can be done by subject, format or genre, and the advanced search feature allows filtering by availability, language, date added, and much more. Titles are accessed via OverDrive/Libby. OverDrive/Libby titles can be accessed from your desktop using OverDrive Read or Listen. Mobile and tablet customers, download the Libby app for iOS and Android.

Getting Started
To begin using NC Kids Digital Library use the "ACCESS NOW" link below. To sign in and checkout items from the NC Kids Digital Library click SIGN IN on the upper right side of the page. Select “Charlotte Mecklenburg Library” from the list of Libraries and enter your Charlotte Mecklenburg Library card number or ONE Access account number. You can also access NC Kids Digital Library using the Libby app. Already using the Libby app to access ebooks and more from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library? Follow these steps to find a Library and and add it to your Libby app. You can then switch back and forth between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and NC Kids Digital Library.
Borrowing
- You are allowed to have up to 5 items checked out at any given time.
- No holds are allowed on NC Digital Kids Library items.

NYTimes.com is a multi-platform news tool that provides access to New York Times and International New York Times content, including breaking news, multimedia, reviews and opinion, blogs, videos and more. NYTimes is updated 24/7. Access includes all online content except for the crossword puzzle. Full access is provided for NYTimes articles published between 1851 thru 1922, and between 1981 thru current day. Access to the years 1923-1980 is limited.
To access the New York Times via Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, you will need to use an individual New York Times account.
From inside the library:
- Use a library computer or connect your own device to the library wifi
- Go to nytimes.com/register
- Register with your personal email address or click on "login here" if you already have created a New York Times account
- Enjoy unlimited access to the New York Times!
For offsite access:
- Click on the remote access link
- Enter your library card number
- Click "Redeem" to get 24 hours of continuous access
- Register with your personal email address or click "login here" if you already have created a New York Times account
After 24 hours, you will need to redeem another pass by repeating these instructions for continued access. *A limited number of offsite passes are available per day.
Troubleshooting:
Do you get a screen like this? Are you using Google Chrome?
Click "Ignore" and you will go on to redeem a pass. We are unsure why Google Chrome is marking this an unsafe site. We have contacted NYTimes about a solution and are hoping they fix the issue. NYTimes recommends using Microsoft Edge browser for optimal experience.

OverDrive/Libby is a collection of e-books, digital audiobooks, and digital magazines offered by the library. E-books, audiobooks, and magazines can be downloaded to your computer, tablet, (including Kindle), or mobile device for offline reading or listening.

Access the Collection

Click the "Access Now" button
- Libby is OverDrive's app, designed to get you reading as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Learn more about Libby and find help here.
- Kindle Fire users will download the Libby app in the Amazon app store.
Borrowing

You can have a maximum of 20 items checked to you out at any given time. For example, if three items are returned, you can check out three more to get back to 20. This limit is not effected by the day of the month. Digital magazine checkouts do not count towards your limit.

The default lending period for ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines is two weeks. The settings menu will let you customize your lending period to 7 days, 14 days, or 21 days.
If items are check out, place a hold. Customers are allowed 10 holds on their account at any given time. You will be contacted by email when your item is available to check out. You'll see an option to renew a title on your Loans page three days before it expires, as long as there are no holds. If the title has holds, you can request it again.
Return items when you are finished or they will be automatically returned when they are due so you never accumulate late fees!
