Storytime

Learning begins at birth, and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. Help your child get ready to read with storytimes for children offered by your library. Most branches offer regular storytimes in which children’s librarians share books, stories, rhymes and songs with you and your child. Storytimes encourage language and pre-reading skill development that help your child grow into a successful reader. Parents are encouraged to participate.

Special Needs

As a result of the partnership between Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Autism Society of North Carolina’s Mecklenburg County Chapter, training videos have been produced by Charlotte Mecklenburg Library staff members who have been planning and presenting programming specific to children with special needs and their families since 2008.  In recent years, programming has expanded to reach children, teens, and adults with special needs.  Programming is geared for all types of special needs and includes individuals on the autism spectrum.

Children's Services

Children’s Services includes children from birth to age 11 as well as their parents and caregivers. The Library offers workshops, storytimes, books and activities to help nurture a love of reading and learning. We also have children’s areas in every Library where parents and children can read, play and learn.
