Monthly guide to school readiness

Help your young child prepare for kindergarten with the Library's FREE month-by-month guide to kindergarten readiness. Tips and ideas include skills development, getting ready to read, health and wellness and lots of book recommendations!  The State Library of NC will send you free text messages to get your child ready for kindergarten in this free program!

StoryPlace

StoryPlace is the Library's bilingual website for young children.  Listen to stories and explore interactive online activities and games.

Bookhive

Bookhive lets you search hundreds of children's book reviews by title, author, reading level, interest category, and number of pages; new reviews monthly.

Storytime

Learning begins at birth, and parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. Help your child get ready to read with storytimes for children offered by your library. Most branches offer regular storytimes in which children’s librarians share books, stories, rhymes and songs with you and your child. Storytimes encourage language and pre-reading skill development that help your child grow into a successful reader. Parents are encouraged to participate.

Children's Services

Children’s Services includes children from birth to age 11 as well as their parents and caregivers. The Library offers workshops, storytimes, books and activities to help nurture a love of reading and learning. We also have children’s areas in every Library where parents and children can read, play and learn.
