Take Your Child to the Library Day - February 3

Public libraries are vital community resources that enrich, educate and entertain. And libraries continue to play a major role in fostering literacy for children, having a positive impact on their success in school and in life. If you haven’t been to the Library with your family lately (and even if you have!), we hope you will visit us on February 3 to celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day.

While you can find fun and educational family programs any day of the week at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library locations, here are a few examples of the regularly scheduled programs happening on February 3:

Storytime

Bring your whole family out to enjoy stories, songs and movement activities that support early literacy skill development and help foster a love of books and reading in your child.

Get Cultured

Participate in ASC Culture Blocks programs or enjoy the opening reception for the LATIBAH Collard Green exhibit at Hickory Grove Library.

ASC Culture Blocks: African American History Portraits @ 11 a.m. | West Boulevard Library
Join us in the celebration of great historic figures within the African American community. A step-by-step process for drawing some of the most inspirational people in our history will be demonstrated.

ASC Culture Blocks: Chorus @ 12:30 p.m. | West Boulevard Library
Learn how to sing! Singing lessons help build confidence and the ability to speak with certainty.

Cultural Exploration: African American History Month: Women in Science @ 2 p.m. | Beatties Ford Road
Join us as we celebrate African American History Month with activities that illustrate and honor African American women in the field of science for their historic and current contributions to society.

Grand Opening of Collards + Culture: LATIBAH Collard Green Museum @ 2 p.m. | Hickory Grove Library
Join us for a grand opening celebration including refreshments and tours of the life-size exhibit that explores how Africans were brought to the Americas through the Middle Passage.


And beyond these great programs, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s 20 locations have shelves full of books to take home, movies to enjoy and music to dance to. We hope you will visit soon.
