South County Regional Library, like many branches throughout Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, has a thriving writing community. Library volunteer Nancy Kline, also a member of the Adult Writing Group at South County, formed the Adult Poetry Club in January to give local writers the opportunity to share their original poetry with their peers in a supportive environment. Members share their poetry with each other in exchange for feedback and encouragement. They also participate in writing exercises and enjoy a sense of community.
On Tuesday, April 10, the Adult Poetry Club hosted an open mic event to celebrate National Poetry Month. Participants shared their original poetry and enjoyed the camaraderie of being among other local writers and poetry lovers. National Poetry month was founded in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets and occurs every year in April and we're proud to keep the tradition moving forward.
If you missed the event, check out one of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s upcoming poetry programs and find your inner poet at the libary.
