My New Location!

Hey, guys, the Iron Guy has arrived at his new location. If you've seen the last post on the old blog, then you know about the big move over to this site. If you haven't, or if you're new to this blog, let me introduce myself.

I'm Iron Guy Carl (I thought about calling myself "Iron Man" but some comic book company beat me to it) and I work for the great Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system. There has always been a nasty rumor that boys don't like to read. That reading is boring. Not fun and not cool. The Iron Guy, MANLY MAN that he is, has always tried to crush that rumor like the Hulk crushing an evil alien attack ship. So, about 11 years ago, when the Web underwent a big renovation and called itself the Web 2.0, I created a blog dedicated to telling boys about terrific books and letting them write in and tell us about the books they like. It was a lot of fun. We read a lot of books and graphic novels and biographies and stuff (even listened to some good audiobooks), interviewed some authors, had some good discussions and boys told us about their favorite reads. (take a look here for an example) I'm going to keep doing that in this new location. The mission will not change--this will always be "a place for boys to find terrific books and tell other boys about great reading." Why, then, did we move to this new place?

Mainly it was because the library system needed to bring all its social media together under one umbrella. Our library had lots of social media scattered all over the place. Let me make this comparimothershipson--it was as if dozens of shuttlecraft had gone out into space over the years; so many, in fact, that we couldn't keep track of them all. It was time for all the shuttlecraft to return to the mothership. All the library's blogs needed to come into the same place, so that's why the Boys Read moved from its old location to this new one. And there's one more good reason--the cyberworld is a different place from what it was 11 years ago and there's better cybersecurity under this umbrella, just as a shuttlecraft has more protection aboard the mothership.

Of course, there are always trade-offs. You'll notice that there is no Comments section under this post. It's too bad but the mothership just doesn't have the staff to maintain Comments just now. If that ever changes, I'll let you know. In the meantime, I'll put this:

Boys Rules Boys Read Contact Form | Charlotte Mecklenburg Library

at the end of each post. It's a means to contact me directly. Tell me your thoughts and please send in some book reviews!

Yes, we're undergoing some changes but, as Thor said to Loki in the Ragnarok movie, "Life is about growth and change." Stick with me through these changes, guys. We'll still have fun and talk about great and exciting reads. My TBR ("to be read") pile is as big as Mount Olympus and I can't wait to tell you about some of the great stuff in there!

Join in the excitement of reading cool stuff in nour new home!
