March Is National Craft Month

Did you know that March is National Craft Month? What does that mean? It means there’s no better time to get creative, get messy, and get busy making something fun--and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is here to help in multiple ways!

First, you can join us at our crafting events and classes at various branches. Learn to knit, sew, 3D print anything you can think of, laser cut a wood sculpture, and much more at Idea Box, our Makerspace at Main Library. (Special note: On March 15, Idea Box will host a special DIY St. Patrick’s Day t-shirt station!) Join us at Scaleybark for Adult Coloring Therapy. At our Matthews branch, the Matthews Yarn Crafters meet twice a month to enjoy community and crafting. Our Mint-Hill branch offers programs on Knitting Pattern Reading for Beginners. Branches throughout CML have art clubs for 12-to-18-year-olds to immerse themselves in a creative vibe. We also host Culture Blocks art workshops, sponsored by the Arts & Science Council, at several branches.

Second, our collection has everything you need to hone your crafting skills or take up a hobby that’s entirely new to you. If you enjoy adult coloring, why not check out Craft-a-Doodle Deux: 73 Exercises for Creative Drawing, by Jenny Doh, or Zen Doodle, edited by Tonia Jenny, to explore drawing your own doodles to color? Want to turn drawing into a social event? Check out Ladies Drawing Night: Make Art, Get Inspired, Join the Party, by Julia Rothman, Lean Goren & Rachael Cole. If working with tools is more your style, we’ve got DIY Stamped Metal Jewelry, by Adrianne Surian, or The Handmade Life: A Companion to Modern Crafting, by Ramona Barry.

And don’t forget our plethora of online resources!  Lynda.com has tutorials on 3D printing, drawing, and concepts of creativity and design. At Universal Class, you can take self-paced online classes on topics like candle making, soap making, wedding crafts, starting a craft business, and more! Zinio has more than 30 crafting magazines with current and past issues available for immediate download.

Let Charlotte Mecklenburg Library help you get crafty this March!
