In this installment of the Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice takes us from desolate Kiev under Mongol rule to the opulence of Renaissance Venice and current New Orleans. Rice's usual flair for creating vivid pictures of time and place carries Armand and the reader through five centuries of struggle for faith and acceptance. An enjoyable read from beginning to end.
