Krakauer, Jon(1996) Into the Wild
Twenty-four year old John McCandless graduated from Emory in 1990 with honors. His family, expecting John to continue with his education using $24,000 in savings, instead learned that John was off on an adventure. He donated his savings to charity, abandoned most of his possessions, burned the cash in his wallet and set out towards a new life. John's family never knew anything about him, until his corpse was discovered in August 1992. He had perished just four months after entering the Alaskan wilderness with only a .22 caliber rifle, a ten-pound bag of rice, a guide to edible vegetation, and a tattered map. What led John to his final journey in Alaska? What were his obsessions? A must read!
