McCall Smith, Alexander(2002)
No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

“These are my people, my brothers and sisters. It is my duty to help them solve the mysteries in their lives.” Precious Ramotswe runs the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency in Botswana to fix people’s lives. McCall Smith, a British novelist, devotes each chapter to one of her clients and interweaves Precious’s story throughout the novel. He also gives vivid descriptions of Africa and its history. This novel is funny, touching, and well crafted – a great read. Fortunately, it is the first of a series of Precious Ramotswe’s adventures.

I loved the clever, gutsy Precious Ramotswe. This was a terrific read.
-Caroline, Columbus, OH

I have read all of these books in this series. Best of the best. I am so thankful my daughter introduced them to me. Can't wait for the next one.
-Linda, Charlotte, N.C.
