Russo, Richard(2001)
Empire Falls

There are many books which we can exult in but for now I would strongly recommend and praise Richard Russo's Empire Falls, last year's Pulitzer Prize winner. It is a book filled with tragedy, comedy and irony. Most people can identify with the protagonist's inner thoughts, observations and, hopefully, his patience. It lovingly shows our hero coping, dealing with the vicissitudes we all can experience with family, friends, and society. This is truly everyman and we love him for his love and his attempts to salvage his loved ones and, in short, "make things nice". I strongly praise this book.

Reader's comments about this book

I am both an Ed Asner fan and an Empire Falls fan. I had to get on a waiting list at my library to take a crack at this book and I flew through, loving every word. Beg, borrow or buy a copy.
