Reviewer Spotlight
Name: Sally
Reader's Club spotlights Sally, a librarian at Beatties Ford Road Branch Library, who is also a member of the Reader's Club Team. Sally is a voracious reader and she has reviewed several historical romances for adults.
Here are her thoughts on reading and writing reviews:
"For me, a true devotion to books came in high school when I was told what to consider worthy literature versus not worthy literature. Perhaps in an effort to rebel against these literature gurus, I turned to romance novels and have been addicted to them ever since. In college, I could not wait until the end of the semester just so I could run to a public library and check out any available romance books. Some text books can be wonderful, but to me there is nothing like a good historical romance story. Now my tastes are a little more defined. Once I find an author who develops a plot using new concepts, I am hooked and will wait impatiently for the next installment. One of my calendars is specifically dedicated to the estimated publishing dates for romance series books!
To spice things up and to stop the endless mocking from friends, I read the occasional non-romance book. From zombies to WWII, if it comes with a good recommendation from a trusted book lover I will try it. Authors such as Anne Rice, Reynolds Price and Anita Diamant are among my favorite authors recommended by friends and family.
Writing reviews has actually taught me what aspects I truly enjoy about a particular book. Analyzing the book allows me to realize why I could not pull myself away from the story, or perhaps why I was on the fence about it.
With my friends, I am a book pusher, but hopefully for the Reader's Club visitors I am just another booklover persuasively recommending a great book. "
Thanks, Sally!
