Summer Film Series - Mutiny on the Bounty
MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (1935) Directed by Frank Lloyd Starring Clark Gable and Charles Laughton 132 minutes; B&W Winner of the 1935 Oscar for Best Picture, this classic MGM production was the original version of many ‘Bounty films’ to come. In the role of mutineer Fletcher Christian, Clark Gable is sturdily heroic (as well as clean-shaven). However, it’s Charles Laughton who’s unforgettable as the tyrannical Captain Bligh, a man so sadistic he insists on having a dead sailor flogged. This is Hollywood storytelling in the grand, old-fashioned manner, and a fitting conclusion to this summer’s film series. Audience: Adults, Teens (12-18), Seniors
