Skills to Pratice this Month
- Review basic bus and traffic safety rules with your child.
- Whether or not your child will be riding a bus to and from school, all children should be aware of traffic and automobile safety rules.
Activities
Take a walk around your neighborhood with your child. As you walk, talk about ways to be safe around cars and buses. Show your child the safe way to cross the street. Talk about where you live and your child’s address. Talk to your child about strangers.
Review the basic bus safety rules with your child.
- Wait for the bus to stop completely before approaching it from the curb.
- Do not get up and move around while riding on the bus.
- Check to see that no traffic is coming before crossing a street when boarding or getting off a bus.
- Make sure to always stay in clear view of the bus driver. Can you see the bus driver? If you can’t see them, they probably can’t see you!
Take a ride on a bus with your child. Review the safety rules as you board, ride, and get off the bus.
