Creating the Library of the Future Presented via Urban Libraries Council Webinar on Tuesday, September 18, 2012
What happens when a fiscal crisis reveals that the library’s value may not be fully-understood by the community, including decision-makers? In Charlotte, North Carolina, leaders formed The Future of the Library Task Force. The recommendations that flowed from their comprehensive strategic plan have ignited a remarkable transformation, both of the library and its position in the community.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Director of Libraries David Singleton leads a webinar that examines how the library is:
- Aligning its strategic priorities with the county’s critical success factors
- Creating a new framework for partnership with its key funder, Mecklenburg County
- Positioning itself as an educational partner with the school district and community college
- Adopting a strategic approach to library programming that recognizes the full costs of programs and is capturing participant outcomes
- Telling the library story in ways that resonate with the community and with funders.
David will be joined by key stakeholders including Library Trustee Gloria Kelley and County Associate Manager Leslie Johnson, and others whose work is instrumental to this process.
