The Main Library Committee was a group of seven citizens charged with exploring the possibilities of the Main Library in Uptown Charlotte. They were jointly appointed in 2011 by the Mecklenburg County Manager (Harry L. Jones Sr.) and Library CEO (Vick Phillips). Work took place in 2011 and 2012.
After completion of research, analysis and deliberations, the Main Library Committee issued this final written report.
The committee was first proposed by the Future of the Library Task Force in Spring 2011. In their report, the Task Force acknowledged that the questions surrounding Main Library are complex, and that “another committee should take a hard look at the Main Library, the functions within the space and usage.” The Task Force added that the committee “would be charged with considering the feasibility of consolidating, downsizing or relocating the functions of Main to ImaginOn, other county-owned sites or other sites in downtown.”
