The Main Library Committee is a group of seven citizens charged with exploring the possibilities of the Main Library in Uptown Charlotte. They were jointly appointed by Mecklenburg County Manager Harry L. Jones Sr. and Library CEO Vick Phillips.

After completion of its research, analysis and deliberations, the Main Library Committee has issued this final written report.
The committee was first proposed by the Future of the Library Task Force in Spring 2011. In their report, the Task Force acknowledged that the questions surrounding Main Library are complex, and that “another committee should take a hard look at the Main Library, the functions within the space and usage.” The Task Force added that the committee “would be charged with considering the feasibility of consolidating, downsizing or relocating the functions of Main to ImaginOn, other county-owned sites or other sites in downtown.”
The committee will meet on the second Monday of each month, starting in November 2011, with work to be completed in April 2012.
Committee meetings will take place monthly in the Dickson Boardroom on the third floor of the Main Library, located at 310 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. All meetings will be open to the public, with notice sent out 48 hours in advance.
